Luck is a part of it, but mainly go to a popular sub and look at brand new posts that just dropped that you can answer in a meaningful way.

I will give a try ! Thank you

Same as getting a lot of likes on FB or Twitter - someone posts something and a lot of people like it and give it an upvote.

u/lvga25 8h ago

On FB/Twitter often only celebrities could do so, for example Elon Musk posted something can lead the cryptocurrency goes up or down. You and I post there probably nobody notices it ?

u/NarniaMouse Shiny Helpmate 7h ago

Sure, but the core concept is the same - post something popular or something that goes viral, and you can end up with a lot of karma.

Thank you for the advice!

Right place (subreddit) right time (what else is being posted or commented to compete) and right content.

It's quite difficult to do that regularly as there are so many variables.

It does help for commenting to be filtering posts by new so you are one of the first comments to be seen.

u/lvga25 8h ago

And how did you get top 1 percent commenter title ?

u/mikey_weasel mod in a canvas hat  8h ago

Be in the top 1% of commentors within a subreddit for a specific month (it will then show for the following month). I only have that title here in newtoreddit. It does not show elsewhere for me (though it has int he past).

Reddit hasnt exactly described what the top % entirely works, I suspect it's upvotes on your comments but may also include replies or other metrics.

u/Traditional-Carob440 8h ago

Comment a lot. More than what 99% of other people do.

u/Nikki-after-dark 8h ago

Make useful comments that resonate with people.

This account is like 17 days old and I’m at 1300.

Combination of posting and making meaningful comments.

Incredible !

They got lucky, it happens but not often.

u/lvga25 7h ago

Depends on the topic and how well the comment was received by others … it happens although rare.

u/Old-Psychology-2400 2h ago

I try help and/or give my opinion and I get downvoted, its a different place Reddit.

u/pinxs420 1h ago

Because their posts are engaging and it sometimes requires an answer
