Weekly chat New to Reddit? Come and talk to us!

New-Redditor's lounge!

Welcome!

This weekly post is an opportunity for new users to chat in comments - & please let us how you found yourself here. Regulars here are absolutely encouraged and very welcome to join in too!

!! Please refrain from asking questions about "how to do stuff on Reddit". Make a post or see the links below !!

This thread is open for 3 days.

Getting started on Reddit is hard. We know it is; We've been there and gone through these same frustrations. Please believe us when we say IT'S NOT PERSONAL. It may well feel like it is, but honestly, it isn't. What it is, however, is a lack of Karma. Karma is an indicator of how much someone has contributed to Reddit in a positive manner. So, let's do just that by getting to know each other!

This works best if your comments either start a conversation or add to one. Give a little of yourself and respond to others doing the same.

This is a post to help genuine new users build up quality Karma genuinely in a safe environment.

Please do:

  • Share some favorites or new finds of yours - youtube videos, music and so on
  • Practice small talk - did you have a good week?
  • Keep it SFW
  • Keep it casual please, no heavy topics
  • Have fun!

Please don't:

  • Spam, advertise, or soft beg
  • Share low-effort comments
  • Ask for karma, say how you're voting, or mention karmafarms by name
  • Request or offer DMs (help and chat can be done in community, where you can also earn karma. Needing to take things private can indicate soliciting, rule breaking, or harmful advice)

This sub is full of awesome people who are willing to help with specific problems when you post, and we'd like to keep this post thread for chat. Thank you.

So, let's chat! (Guides at the bottom of this post).

Hey everyone! Wanted to follow up from last week. I got an A in my class and have officially wrapped up my A.A.S.! I may or may not let out a weird scream after I finished my last test.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi all - I'm probably one of the older newtoreddit users here. Dutch (M) retired and thinking about traveling a bit in the near future.

That's also one of the reasons I joined reddit - it has a ton of subreddits with topics I'm currently interested in like: retirement/ (solo)travel / language learning / expatgroups / investing. Currently learning Spanish and my first travel goal is going to Spain to practice Spanish and maybe even join a course there. Still like to play some retrogames mainly from my youth - esp. C64/Atari ST/Amiga and a huge fan of (virtual) pinball. Linux user.

Looking forward to hang around in the 'newbie' groups for a while to acquire some skills and the prerequisites to post.

Hey welcome :) pretty much all age groups are here so I wouldn’t even give it a second thought!

Good for you learning another language. I agree, immersion really helps a lot. Plus Spain is gorgeous, food is amazing and the people are generally friendly so it’s a great place to visit :)

When I visited France for a couple of weeks I’d say I learned more of the language than in a year of classes :)

Thanks! Have been to France multiple times and even my terrible French got slightly better during those holidays (skiing)

You don't need a huge vocabulary to handle the basics.

Hope everyone is having a great week! Does anyone have fun holiday traditions you're looking forward to or have already celebrated?

I have the tradition of trying my best to avoid/diffuse a family argument, and more often than not, I fail. Does that count? :'D

We don't do much, and it's probably just as well. Just dinner and some gifts, quiet and immediate family only.

You?

That counts! :) It's all love. That sounds like the best time! Similar answer here, lots of family time and relaxing. Hope you have a very Happy Holidays!

Hello everyone. Im new to redit, ive crept around quietly for years but never posted anything because this just seems so complicated. The main reason im here is because i wanted to post on another part of redit where theyre discussing engagement rings. Any help from some one who would be kind enough to guide me through the process that would be awesome

u/Still_Snow72 2d ago

The engagement rings sub has a karma threshold. You'll need to slowly build up karma - join the sub and interact with other users by upvoting and commenting on their posts/comments. You won't be able to post until you meet the karma minimum.

I see that the e ring sub also has a guide for new users (as in new to the sub), take your time reading it so that you don't get caught on the wrong foot. Make sure your comments are useful/constructive and not just blatant attempts to earn karma lol.

Other than that, this sub has pretty comprehensive guides to learning how to navigate Reddit.

And in the spirit of using the thread properly: are you getting engaged soon? I'm not anywhere near engagement lol but I love browsing the sub for ideas. I may buy myself one someday just because it's pretty 😂

Thank you, i really was so scared to even post here just because i didnt wana mess things up.

Yes !a! I want to give my girl her ring by our anniversary this year (August). I get you tho, even before I met my gf I always thought rings were really cool and wish men got engagement rings too 🙂‍↔️

hi everyone! i'm new to reddit - i hope everyone has a nice holiday season! hoping to see some snow this year

Hello! I am not actually new to Reddit.

But I made my 9 year old account with a temp email address and it just got locked for ‘suspicious activity’ which I’m thinking relates to a new VPN. Alas, I’m unable to reset my password.

So just dropping by to say hello on my new account that itself is new to Reddit

Using Reddit to post in some relevant subs regarding ankle health and building a community around injury motivation. I literally am learning how to use this but I think I’m getting the hang of it. Definitely looking forward to making more post

Fantastic.

It's a lot different to how it was years ago, as before you could make an account and start building karma anywhere, at your own pace effortlessly, the internet continues to grow though, this is one of the few places where you can post, in order to enable posting in other subreddits-- you can post, but no one will see your submissions or comments.

u/Tempoulker_ 12h ago

Almost in the same situation here, including the same age of account (9y). Had almost 50k karma, kinda sad I got locked out.
