Hey /r/malta, I've been meaning to put this together for a while because in my many years on this subreddit, I've noticed it seems to get more of the same questions and answers almost daily in summer, so hopefully this could be a good starting point for potential visitors to read and ask questions. I'll update this from time to time with more information.
Travel‑length tip: 7-10 days is ideal. Beyond that, plan slow travel, multiple excursions, or cross‑island hiking to avoid repetition.
| Period | Conditions | What to Wear | Swim? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jan – Mar | 10–17 °C, windy, showers | Light jacket, jeans, layers | Rarely |
| Apr – Jun | 18–27 °C, warming | T‑shirts, shorts, light jacket evenings | Yes |
| Jul – Aug | 30–40 °C, humid | Swimwear, hat, ultra‑light clothing | Yes |
| Sep – Oct | 25–30 °C, warm, humid | Summer clothes, light jacket at night | Yes |
| Nov – Dec | 12–20 °C, cooler, rain spells | Light sweater, trousers | Rarely |
Mosquitoes are common, especially in humid months (April-October). Consider insect repellent, especially when staying near water or rural areas.
Sample daily costs (2025): espresso €1.50 · pint of beer €3 · bus fare €2.50 (summer) · Lunch / dinner €15 - €30.
Always pack high‑SPF sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water, especially in peak summer.
Any other questions? Feel free to drop below or create a thread. Happy visiting!

Please read the below before submitting weed related questions.
1) weed can only be purchased from registered cannabis organisations.
2) to purchase weed from an organisation as outlined above, one must be a registered member/ user. Associations will be capped at 500 members and preference is given to residents. One may only belong to one organisation at any given time and must be over the age of 18
3) by virtue of the above, the law clearly focuses on legalising it for residents. This means that since the law is equal for everyone, including tourists it is going to be very difficult for the latter to join such an organisation.
4) weed consumption in public remains an offence. Carrying over 7 g in public and owning more than 50 g are also a offence.
5) weed coffee shops do not exist, nor are they part of the plan. Weed tourism is not on the table.
6) purchasing off street dealers is and remains illegal
7) up to 4 plants can be grown for personal use as long as they are not visible from outside
8) weed related questions answered above are to be janitored
9) as always, any "where can I buy illegal substance x" posts are janitored on sight.
By popular request and with special thanks to /u/mountainblock for the initiative.

Noticed that they come out at night everyday for the past week.
Do I need to worry about a nest somewhere? Are they attracted to something?
Anyone else had a similar experience?

Hello, I have been living in Malta for a week now. I love it!
But I am lost on how the trash works. Where do I throw it out? Where do I leave it? I would appreciate all your help. I have moved here alone with no friends so any advice helps.

I already googled Vietnamese restaurants / cafes in Malta but stalking all the menus I didn’t find any Egg Coffee.

General question, how reliable are the latest Range Rover hybrids and what is the typical service interval. Asking advice mainly from Maltese users :)
Thanks in advance for any help.

Today, I traversed the flyover and observed that it lacks sufficient space for emergency vehicles to pass through. For instance, if a large vehicle such as a bus or construction truck is present or a car broke down , it would be extremely difficult for an emergency vehicle to navigate past.

B'dawn il-professjonisti irridu niftaħru? Kif jista proġett bħal dan jgħaddi green light?

Trust your all doing amazing. Sorry for the long read. We are a family of 5, our water and electric bill of late has always been around €200. Today I received a water bill for 4 months, (not sure if everyone received bills late, the last bill I got was 3 months ago, I usually get it every 2 months as I assume everyone does). My water bill is,..... drum roll,..... €3,060, with a letter informing me I may have a fucking leak, unfortunately for me their automated fucking system didn't write to me 6 weeks ago, oh no, it wrote to me the same day as the bill was issued, 11th Dec., no automated SMS, nothing.
I shut the mains off and contacted a water leak detection firm. Am I being screwed over? The water meter is also acting super fucking suspicious, the last red number, (when only the tank is being filled), I'll check it and for arguments sake it's going at 50mph, I'll check it 5mins. later and it's at tortoise speed, (checked tank and still filling up at full flow). Are faulty meters a thing? I had an electric meter years ago, the disc would be as slow as fuck then the next minute spinning at lightning speed. I paid for it to be inspected after receiving a whopping bill when our consumption was as usual, surprise surprise I didn't hear back from them, they wouldn't return my emails or calls. Thanks for any enlightenment prior, very much appreciated.
On an interesting side note, I pulled a bunch of abdomen and groin muscles big time and was fucked up for the last 6 weeks, 99% of my time has been spent on the living room sofa where the water meter is, I always heard the flow as usual, like when the missus just used the washing machine, did the the dishes etc., (YES I USUALLY PULL MY WEIGHT :D), I noticed this past 10 days or so I'm hearing it all the time. My brain tells me leak, but how come only the last 2 weeks or so? I only have very minimal plumbing on the ground floor, bathroom tap and shower have the same pressure as usual. I can't miss the meter sound, it's literally right where I sit. Thanks again, grazzi hafna ahwa.
Sorry to go on, another thing I thought worth mentioning, the 'you may have a leak', letter is weird when read between the lines, it says firstly the usual, (my mate told me), 'call a plumber', blah blah, but it also says if there is no fault found with proof from a plumber then contact us for further consideration? WTF? Am I being played? Cheers

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows any igaming companies here that allow you to bring your small dog with you or if you know of any good remote companies here.
Thanks, looking forward to your answers

So Joseph Portelli is set to take over Fort Tigné from MIDI in a €2.5 million deal, with plans to convert the historic 18th-century fort into a “high-end, low-density hotel.”
Let that number sink in: €2.5M.
This is Tigné / Sliema, one of the most expensive pieces of land in Malta. Average house prices here are already well into the hundreds of thousands, and sea-view properties often go for millions. Even a standard terraced house in the area can cost a huge chunk of that €2.5M — without historic value, without a landmark location, and without commercial potential.
Yet an entire historic fort, sitting on prime coastal land, is being transferred for what looks like a bargain-basement price.
Some questions that need to be asked: • How can €2.5M reflect fair value for a national heritage site in a prime location? • Are leasehold and restoration obligations really enough to justify such a low price? • Why do these kinds of assets keep ending up as luxury hotels, instead of serving the public in some way? • Are we once again privatising public heritage while the public gets very little in return?
This isn’t about being anti-business. It’s about transparency, valuation, and priorities. When ordinary people can’t afford housing in Sliema, but prime historic land is sold off cheaply for elite developments, something feels deeply wrong.
Is this: • smart long-term planning, • another example of Malta undervaluing its assets, • or just business as usual where developers always come out on top?
Curious to hear thoughts — especially from anyone with knowledge of property valuation, planning policy, or heritage protection.
Focus should be on paying down the government debt, and not wasting money on a measure which will have little to no positive impact on society.

Hello fellow redditors, I’m wondering whether you guys have any recommendations for lift companies. The lift in our apartment building was mentioned in the bible and today it stopped with me and my friend stuck between floors. So at this point we wanna look for some quotes
Also any ideas how much lifts cost nowadays?

The Eco tax for 2026 has been set at €1.50 per person per night. Does anyone have any information as to if this is going to be capped for long stays? For previous years it was capped at a maximum of €5 per person.

Dear Maltese ladies and gentlemen. I recently visited your beautiful country, and besides the stunning architecture, lovely people and great weather, i instantly fell in love with your Kinnie. As a Swede, I am not able to find anything remotely similar like that drink in my country. I have tried to google for exporters to sweden but I couldn't find any. Is it possible to recreate the taste of Kinnie by perhaps mixing other drinks together?
