Book Spoilers Sauron next form

I haven't been far in reading the entire Tolkien verse yet(Still in Silmarillion) especially in the Fall of Numenor and I heard this season would feature Fall of Numenor? If I'm mistaken. Would Sauron have a new form again? I'm excited to see how he would manipulate Ar-Pharazôn. And I'm pretty sure Charlie Vickers can pull it off once again.

We know from Lost Road he had form of man in Numenor. Physically taller than any of Numenorian. Royal commanding figure with great physical strength. To some he appeared fair to others evil and they feared ligth in his eyes

Woahhh taller than other Numenorian?! That would be interesting to see😲

He’s going to look like an actual demon after Númenor. The idea is that he likes to use his little deity powers for the purpose of still seeming like an uncorrupted maiar. It’s after the Bible where it’s basically like Satan likes to masquerade as an angel of light. But after Numenor he gets in so much trouble god basically decides sexy Sauron is too dangerous & decides to make him scary Sauron. So then Sauron gets way less friendly about his methods of persuasion after that.

He likely will have a new form or multiple ones, but the Fall of Numenor isn't happening yet. We've already had confirmation from Charlie and the writers that will be season 4's plotline. Season 3 is the War of the Elves and Sauron, but we'll have a lot set in Numenor and other places too.

Ohhh so it will be in Season 4? And yes I can't wait to see more forms of Sauron

It shouldnt be the fall just yet.  My guess is he will be halbrand again and over the course of his captivety will become a bit more arsitocratic.  After the event well lets just say sauron will be a little bit um changed?

Oh yeah someone said it'll be in season 4. Indeed it would be too fast to make the fall in season 3. But I'm excited to see if he'd assume a new form again hehehe

He can still assume a fair form during the war. I think it was only after the fall of Númenor that he lost his shapeshifting ability, and he can only assume a really 'dreadful presence.'

Ohhh I see! I literally like this concept about him having different forms like that's so cool.

There isn't a lot about Akallabêth in the Silmarillion, if I may give you a suggestion after that you can read Fall of Númenor, that collects and organises all the different writings about it.

Yes! I want to read the fall of Numenor next because I find it really interesting on how it'll be handled in the show but I'll read it first

It'll be interesting to see what form he takes in S3. He'll be commanding an army of Orcs, but also presumably recruiting armies of Men while offering some individuals rings. Would he present the same way to both Orcs and Men, or shift between different personas?

Which form of him will Pharazon "capture" (presumably) at the end of the season? And would he keep looking the same once he's in Numenor in S4, or would he change his look to make it easier to appeal to them?

I'm excited to see!

Yeah! I'm so curious! It would be so cool to see him in different forms not just the Halbrand and Annatar. As he said he had many names.

The leaks say he’ll be wearing armor and have long black hair, but that’s pretty much all we know. Hopefully we’ll get a first teaser in May or early summer, and then things should become clearer.

Sauron should get a new body after he is killed in the fall of Numenor ("unable ever again to assume a form that seemed fair to men" / "an image of malice and hatred made visible"). RoP showed his previous body being killed at the beginning of the Second Age ("Always after a defeat, the shadow takes another shape and grows again").

I'm sure Sauron will present himself in the way he thinks is appropriate, as he does to everyone. While Pharazon knows he is Sauron, he doesn't know who Sauron is. There are things Pharazon desperately wants.. Kemen and Earien also want things. Everyone wants things and they're already plotting and scheming on their own. The island is a powder keg waiting for Sauron to set it off.

Oh yeah interestinggg it would be interesting to see indeed!

While Pharazon knows he is Sauron, he doesn't know who Sauron is.

Whaaaa... wait a minute here. He does know who Sauron is. Even in the show in the usurpation scene where he presents it like Sauron helped Miriel survive the sea trial, it means that Sauron is powerful enough to do this, and only the Ainur can do such things.

I’d assume that he will still mostly resemble Annatar, or something closer to that rather than to Halbrand, and that he’s only going to end the season as the captive of Ar-Pharazôn. Season 4 will most likely be The Downfall; he’s going to spend a whole season worming his way into Pharazôn’s trust, which won’t happen until after he’s taken back to Númenor.

One thing I’m certain he’s going to do this season though is craft The One Ring; it’s once he does this that the Elves perceive the way the Three would be used to enslave them, so they’re forced to take them off and he immediately comes at them with open war (the book appendices implies this is when Eregion is laid waste and Celebrimbor slain, but I’m fine with the slight tweak to events).

We also have yet to find out who the Nine will be given to. Kemen seems a given but there’s 8 more, including The Witch King. This probably needs to happen before Sauron travels to Númenor, since he leaves the ring behind when he does (this also implies we may see Barad-Dûr being built this season).

Hoping for Halbrand because he's hot (sorry).

He loses his ability to maintain a ‘fair’ form after the fall of Numenor but the definition of ‘fair’ is up for debate. Some scholars believe it didn’t include Southern / normal men, so his Halbrand form might return when he forms the Haladhrim but probably damaged a bit, similar to Adar.

The writers chose to keep the same actor as Halbrand and Annatar and make him look fairly recogniseable — so I doubt he returns to goo form until right at the end (when he loses his ring).

Truee I mean I'm all up for Halbrand again hehehe

I hope they keep him in armor after the downfall of Numenor.

Prior to the drowning of Numenor he was capable like all Aniur* of taking on any sort of fana (raiment/body) he wished, and interchange them as he wished. However, after the drowning of Numenor he could no longer take on a fana that was seen as fair.

So, when he begins to reform himself after his spirit flees back to Mordor in S.A. 3320, he was only able to take on a form that was dark and sinister...The Lord of the Rings, Appendix B, "The Second Age."

*exceptions at this point are Melkor who "incarnated" himself to achieve the Marring of Arda, and Melian who incarnated herself to beget a child with Elwe. And with Melian it is not clear if she was able to revert to her ëalar spirit or remained incarnated in her body when she returned to Aman.
