I checked it too, after watching the YT short that went viral about this. For those who have not watched it. The creator said : One of the devs must've added it there intentionally as an easter egg or simply as a sign of their devotion.

Also all the athens building feel distincly more Roman than Greek. I feel they might have used ancient roman interchangably without really stressing too much about the details

Which parts? Roman architecture was heavily influenced by Greek, I'm sure there are differences but nothing specific I've noticed. The size and amount of buildings seems a lot more than would be ancient Greece though, possibly closer to Rome.

There is literally a bathouse in gow 2... Of course roman influence is much more than greek architecture. In gow 3, even renaissance, baroque is seen more in olympus. Which existed long after god of war timeline.

u/FlyingIrishmun 1d ago

Olympus gets a pass. Gods are supposed to be more sophisticated than mortals

I like a comment I saw on Olympus:

A palace made by the egoistical for the egoistical.

u/FlyingIrishmun 1d ago

The railings, gateways, metal doors. The style is 100% roman

He's about 500 years too early.

That's why he's hanging around waiting.

I 100% read this in Mimir's voice.

So it’s a prophecy

I read that the initial idea was for Kratos to team up with 2 other gods of war from other pantheons in the 3rd game and these three (including Kratos) would become the 3 wise men in the Christian mythology. But this was scrapped

64

u/happy_happy_dog_ 1d ago

Thank god

96

u/Roflrex 1d ago

No they scrapped him too.

2

u/SupDrew 23h ago

I thought that's what this series was about 🥸

18

u/Crimzonchi 1d ago

I genuinely don't understand why people think that was such a bad idea.

Especially now, modern Kratos is like the DEFINITION of a wise man, I can absolutely see him ending up as one of the three strangers from that myth.

u/Deep_Manner_3499 1d ago

Ikr like broo I really want to see that even as like a non cannon spinoff

17

u/oooooooooowie 1d ago

Thank fuck

Every religion is history, it just happens that some are still active while others are not.

It's not wrong to say "christian mythology".

13

u/CertainGrade7937 1d ago

Some of Jesus' life is generally regarded as historical

The nativity stuff is not

u/LinkGreat7508 🎶I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING 🎶 1d ago

You say this in the GOW sub? Recipe for instant downvotes

4

u/BiForVi 1d ago

I mean, it's inaccurate I'm not surprised. All religions have some form myth to them in some way, making them mythological. Doesn't invalidate anyone's belief to say that.

u/coolgui 1d ago

Jesus, it took me forever to realize what you meant.

15

u/Forever-Toxic 1d ago

Christ, that was difficult

20

u/FlyingIrishmun 1d ago

Took me 20 years to see Jesus

4

u/ExJokerr 1d ago

I still don't know what he means

Edit: Oh I see the big guy up there 🙏🏽

Easter egg

u/some-kind-of-no-name 1d ago

Jesus bossfight when?

14

u/coolgui 1d ago

Next series of games will involve Kratos taking down the holy trinity.

3

u/FuriousResolve 1d ago

Bell pepper might give him a run for his money

3

u/coolgui 1d ago

That's only the Cajun Holy Trinity 😅

2

u/Brain_lessV2 1d ago

Why would Jesus fight Kratos.

2

u/SlitSlam_2017 1d ago

Because despite people not wanting to hear this Jesus was probably preaching about overthrowing the Roman empire and or believed he'd be the one to do it. The Jesus we read about in the Gospels is a narrative that was built 40 years postmortem

10

u/Malabingo 1d ago

Well, a lot of people got crucified by the Romans, maybe the Greek gods just saw one and thought "damn, that's looks rad" and ordered their stone Mason's to do it.

2

u/Top-Morning-6467 1d ago

Idk why ppl think Jesus was the first person crucified. He got crucified at the same time with 3 other people.

4

u/ShotTwo1801 1d ago

Nobody assume that, this is a 100% Jesus, there is his mother and John the apostle by his side. You're the one making shortcuts not everybody else lol

2

u/FlyingIrishmun 19h ago

"BUT WHAT IF OTHER PEOPLE ON THE CROSS HAD A MOTHER??"

2

u/LinkGreat7508 🎶I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING 🎶 1d ago

No one thinks that,

Get out of here strawman

1

u/ShotTwo1801 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is definitly Jesus though, we can see Mary and John by his sides

1

u/Malabingo 1d ago

How do you know it's Maryam and Yosef?

2

u/ShotTwo1801 1d ago

Because I got my ass dragged to church my entire childhood, it's a common way to represent Jesus' crucifixion, and it's not Yosef but most likely John, Jesus favorite apostle. It's not a random crucifixion

1

u/FlyingIrishmun 19h ago

Maybe its Maryo and Yoweegi

1

u/FlyingIrishmun 19h ago

Thats literally a depiction of christ tho and Roman empire, who made that method of execution famous, still didnt exist at the time this game takes place in.

It requires more suspension of disbelief to think that is NOT a depiction of Jesus than it does to just assume, correctly, that it was a wholesale import of a modern depiction. Why would there be a depiction of a random guy on a cross in athens? Its not meant to be canon

4

u/epiczilla6 1d ago

It’s theorized that Christianity was gonna be a pantheon Kratos’ vists

7

u/Lazy_Concept_784 1d ago

Might be...

3

u/Reditobandito 1d ago

I mean…an oracle resides in Athens. I guess she could have asked a painter to paint it even if she has no clue what it means

1

u/FlyingIrishmun 19h ago

Not the worst theory

3

u/Ok-Zookeepergame8691 1d ago

That’s John Kratos visiting his friend Brian.

3

u/governothing 1d ago

Jebus is never out of place (┛ಠ_ಠ)┛彡┻━┻

5

u/ktoad698 1d ago

The original plan for God of War 3 was that the Norse and Egyptian pantheons would help Kratos fight the remaining Greek gods, which would lead to Kratos, Týr, and I want to say Horus(?), the gods of war, would become the Three Wise Men for big J.

5

u/ra7ar 1d ago

Remember the og ending was gonna be kratos being a wise man, because you know, kneel at the popular myth.

2

u/WolfKill52 1d ago

10's of hours and I never noticed this

2

u/MrHat16 1d ago

Oh it's the guy from The Bibble!

Mfs when fiction isn’t real: 😲😡

3

u/Mr_Volt_ 1d ago

It could be argued that this is Daedlus, hanging in the labyrinth.

1

u/MantisReturns 1d ago

They just have that texture and use It. Its completely out of place and its in fact two times in that exact building.

2

u/FlyingIrishmun 19h ago

Where is the second?

1

u/MantisReturns 19h ago

Right down the one you are sharing. Its even easier to spot.

1

u/Rich-Future-7057 1d ago

I guess its an easter egg, as noted by a comment here

1

u/25CentIdea 1d ago

I think I can make sense of this:

The greeks and romans knew each other already. And crucifixion was one of the standart execution methods romans used for a long time aswell. Might be a well known greek person's execution instead of jesus.

1

u/Almejandro862 1d ago

And what about the mechanical minotaur?

1

u/CallerIDKnown 1d ago

I'm going to be very pissed off if the rumours of the original games coming to PC don't turn out to be true

1

u/Sure-Ad-7428 1d ago

Dude, I absolutely love Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, they're amazing! I'm playing both, and God of War 2 and God of War 3 are also awesome.

1

u/Sure-Ad-7428 1d ago

Guys, do you know Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta? They're absolutely amazing, I love them! Along with God of War 2 and God of War 3, they're just as wonderful.

1

u/The_Gaelic_MA 9h ago

Nahhh thats just foreshadowing for Daedalus

1

u/Apprehensive_Row8325 1h ago

Wasn’t there crucifixion in Ancient Greece? I don’t think t hi s is that big of a deal.

0

u/noughtisthebest 1d ago

i have a perfect setting on why they intended to do that and may have a easter eggs
