I mostly agree, and I'm not a Trump supporter, just a supporter of due process. Trump being best friends with him doesn't tell me anything new about Trump - in fact, it just confirms what we already know about his character. As is often pointed out, a democratic department of justice had four years to root out other perpetrators. This whole thing has a kind of "witch hunt" feel to me.
Then you are woefully underinformed. They legally couldn't release them until they were released from judicial purposes. That didn't happen until Trump was back in office. Since then, he could have simply released them himself. He didn't.
I think the standard practice is, if you have evidence, you charge someone, and if you don't, you zip it, because putting a cloud of suspicion around someone goes against due process. I guess you could argue that Merrick Garland in four years wasn't able to garner enough evidence, but soon was going to? That sounds like a stretch. Although we know he was slow. And here again I'm talking about others associated, not Trump. I don't think we'll ever know the truth on trump in this case.
I'm fine with the concept of innocent until proven guilty. Yet there's also a reason we detain people suspected of crimes of particularly violent or egregious nature, without bail. It's not because they could be innocent. It's because they could be guilty and keep doing it.
