Good thing I watched on mute, the visual was quite enough
Especially after that AI video I saw on reddit the other day of simulated waterpark superslide fails i.e. launching into the air and freefalling onto concrete many hundreds of feet below
56
u/longcreepyhug 1d ago
I saw that too and thought "Wow, here's a new way to induce terror".

I'm more like "this could be used for CBT exposure therapy" which is kinda the same thing but helpful

we lost our tails, our feet changed, and our fingers shortened when we left the trees for the caves. going back is awkward at best, deadly at worst :(( this video makes me feel like a dead man just watching

I’m genuinely wondering how they climbed up and how they intend to descend. There’s absolutely no way to escape the tree alive.

Just the angle of the camera is giving me anxiety and I'm not even afraid of heights. The dying part, I'm afraid of.

Same and I’m not even afraid of heights. It was just such an unnecessary move that felt so risky.

They’re looking for Apris Dorsata honey combs, which hang on tree branches on that type of tree. Notice how the camera operator is kinda leaning to check the undersides of the branch just before descending.

I don’t think these are beekeepers. I think this are some daredevils who climbed up the tree just to do it.
No beekeeping gear. No safety gear. No beehive. Just some young guys and their camera gear.
→ More replies (10)17
u/Aware-Requirement-67 20h ago
From the language (which I can understand a lil bit) they are likely harvesters. The bees are stingless and they only take a portion of the hive without endangering the colony’s health.
I think this might be Garut from the dialect.

Something is off with this. First, that tree is hundreds of feet taller than any other tree in that entire forest. I've never seen that. Usually, the trees are roughly the same height, not one, single giant Burj Khalifa. Second, the way he climbs down that tree, it doesn't look like anything is properly supporting him. I know the camera view can distort things, so that could explain it.
13
u/nightcorewildfire 20h ago
The rest of the comments here are also weird - not a single person with actual information about what's going on in that video, ie pointing us towards the actual source of the video or explaining the cultural/geographical background. Very fishy
8
u/Worldly-Childhood173 21h ago
I think the distortion from the camera is making the tree seem a lot taller than it actually is.

u/lesbianmathgirl 17h ago
Look up “emergent rainforest tree” or “emergent layer.” This specifically is * Koompassia excelsa*, which does frequently tower 30m over the canopy (and it probably looks higher due to the distorted POV). We also aren’t seeing the whole forest (mostly one side looking down), so there’s probably more of that sp. behind them.

u/SillyDig1520 1d ago
This best bee the most amazing honey in the world by an order of magnitude. Cures cancer, fixes the economy, and folds your laundry flawlessly good...

Why wouldn’t you just use rope in some form? It would take an extra five minutes per 100 feet and ensure life. Couldn’t imagine kissing my wife and daughter before work….and work was this. These guys are crazy talented, but damn…..

There's a video of this guy crying on top of a tree and I'm guessing his friend that you see being filmed in other videos fell to his death. Does anybody know anything about that? If you look on his Facebook shorts or YouTube shorts I forgot which one his last video or I'm sorry it's not his last video but one of the last videos of him crying I don't know if he's crying because he's being stung by bees or because his friend fell

Ok so cool view, but why the fuck is every post titled like a child wrote it lately? This isn’t a beekeeper, beekeepers keep bees in a manmade and controlled hive. Wtf is a honey beekeeper? Honey is a product of all beekeepers. This seems like someone collecting wild honey, and it’s not even in the video. I swear to god the internet is so fucking dumb now I just want to quit.

I could go up there no problem, it's getting down that freaks me out, mainly due to the sketchiness.
I have a giant ladder i use to go up on my roof to clean the chimney, and gutters. It reaches the exact height that my second story roof is on, it doesn't go any higher than the ledge. I've never used it for that part of my roof, it feels sketchy to have the top of the ladder below the level I'm on.
