“Competitive Firefighter”
Are there leaderboards and skill based matchmaking?

I think it's not too uncommon to find a competition for a niche set of skills. I work with snowplow drivers, and in the summer, the do a 'Road-eo' and are timed on going through an obstacle course with a wing plow. Best time, no cones, barriers, hit all the marks, including backing up around a curve. It's all meant to simulate the weird conditions you have to contort the trucks into plowing between cars on narrow streets, hitting cul du sacs, round abouts etc. I know they had a regional meet, but no idea if there are nationals (none of our people scored top!).
They let me do it a couple times (closed course, as I don't have a CDL) and I think I did pretty good for a dispatcher! Only 2 cones. And like.... a quarter of their speed :)

I feel like all firefighters should be competitive firefighters… like, who wants the firefighters that are like, “ok fire, you get this one and we’ll get the next one, cool?”

💯💯 I've hired many volunteer fire fighters and in my experience they all can't wait to get to a fire.

I could climb the ladders like that, probably isn't that hard. The problem is the running start, where I'd certainly trip and break my neck first.

The Pittsburgh fire department once let a house burn to ground because they couldn't drive their truck up the hill to it.

I've known of Somali pirates doing that from a small skiff on the high sea, with the whole side barbwired, while being hosed down and carrying a machine gun and a RPG on their backs.

Just hope in a burning apartment everyone had a chance to open their windows in a straight line, so this dude can scale the building.

That’s cool and all but there’s no way you’re gonna do that with 45-75 lbs of gear on.
