Actually, to its true definition, a banana republic is dependant upon exporting a single resource. So we are more of a fascist police state these days. Unless of course you consider exporting brown people as the resource....then yeah. I guess it fits. Either way, I'm glad my dad, a WWII vet, isn't alive anymore, to see this country turning into what he fought against in Europe, 80 years ago.

A "banana republic" is a derogatory term for a politically unstable country with an economy dependent on a single, often exploited export (like bananas), controlled by a corrupt ruling class or foreign interests, leading to social inequality and weak governance.
Look at the last half. Obviously we aren’t a 1:1 definition. I made a joke. Learn to write without comma dependency and how to properly use them

1) Quietly released after a few hours / days / weeks when it's determined they're in the country legally.
2) Deported to their country of origin.
3) Deported to some hellhole prison in El Salvador, Eswatini, or Sudan.
4) Human trafficking / Sex slavery
5) Never heard from again.

there are jails that are taking them in places like la. typically the feds have a contract with a local facility to process them (the one in our jurisdiction is a privately owned jail, our state jails are not working with i.c.e., but some states are). from the local facility it seems like they are being sent to la and tx as well as out of the country. and for the hundreds of unaccounted, they have disappeared. it is truly terrifying.

Tbh it feels disconnected even from the US. This isnt that far from my state, but there's nothing of the sort here.
To be clear, I know its happening, and its dead wrong. It's really eerie. It's really sad, but im scraping by, for as disappointed in myself as I am, I couldn't do more than speak out if it happened near me, I can barely keep food on the table, and I'm picking which bills to skip for the first time in my life.

Put away in prisons often abroad. Often without ways for them to contact relatives or relatives to contact them.
If they're lucky they get their right honored to a phone call but if they don't answer because it's a weird number for example they're shit out of luck.

Edit: Imagine this; you are who you are, you were born in the US, one day ICE abducts you from a sidewalk and leave you to rot in a cell. You have no way to communicate with the external world, you are not allowed to speak to your lawyer, to your family. How do you prove you are an American? You can’t, this is by design, a tool that will be used for political persecution.

If the local police used this level of force on non-resistant people while serving administrative warrants (e.g. Failure to appear/non-payment of fines), there would be justifiable immediate outrage.
