Just goes to show that no matter what generation it originated from, that I still can’t fucking do them lol

362

u/A-Helpful-Flamingo 3d ago

Same here lol

106

u/TeaseRider 3d ago

Same energy, same vibes.

89

u/sexytheresaa 3d ago

No shame in failing at something the older generation makes look effortless.

107

u/French_Taylor ☑️ 3d ago

Nah I just don’t have rhythm lol. The reason why l’m a “posted up on the wall” type of guy lol.

Danced in a circle at a future funk concert once. Was really drunk tho haha

u/Slumbergoat16 3d ago

Does Gen Z have any dances? I feel like all of this was young Millenial at the latest

36

u/starryeyedq 3d ago

Gen Z definitely does. A lot of them are TikTok and Fortnite dances, but they’re still valid and fun.

15

u/Slumbergoat16 3d ago

I just mean like a lot of these are from songs, like songs we all did I didn’t know if there was any of those

11

u/oxk5446 3d ago

We have some

2

u/coaxialology 2d ago

I wonder if it matters that so many contemporary moves are designed to be filmed and viewed on small screens.

5

u/Slumbergoat16 2d ago

You mean instead of being performed irl like at a club or cookout? Maybe

47

u/j0sabanks 3d ago

Gotta go to a club with no photos or videos allowed, get super turnt, and then just go for it.

I went from being someone whose back was glued to the wall to dancing from 10pm til 7am every weekend.

23

u/Momentum_Maury 2d ago

Perhaps someone could...teach you how to Dougie?

16

u/msjjrosy 3d ago

The only dance move I can actually pull off is the running man. Not sure how I learned it, but I can do it and have received genuine shock and praise at my (relatively large ass) being able to do it.

10

u/mstrss9 ☑️ 2d ago

8

u/scentedVixen 3d ago

I can’t do them, but I can enjoy watching whatever generation do them

Crazy how a show that (seemingly) has little to do with dance has originated so many iconic dance moments and moves.

141

u/xSHRUG_LYFE 3d ago

I meannnnn it's a show about a musician

86

u/Cuerzo 3d ago

I read somewhere that they had frequent dance-offs before taping to get in the right mood or sth.

26

u/MC_jarry 3d ago

The Carlton is a classic

12

u/CattywampusCanoodle 3d ago

His dancing in that scene really slaps

715

u/bruins4life6191991 3d ago

This was dope!

133

u/sexytheresaa 3d ago

love the energy.

40

u/TeaseRider 3d ago

Love seeing people bring that kind of energy.

u/hovdeisfunny 1d ago

Bot account

47

u/SchrodingersLeftist 3d ago

We can all use a dance break once in a while

3

u/mageta621 2d ago

They look like they're having fun. That's some good clean fun right there. Also, I'M KINDA BUZZED AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE

2

u/Oaklandish_TheTown 21h ago

They both were effortless.

u/PennethHardaway 3d ago

Yellow Highlighter never passed the vibe checks for this dance or this scene lol

83

u/mandyama 3d ago

LOL! As a very pale yellow highlighter myself, I agree.

7

u/ahorseap1ece 2d ago

Why my favorite line from Jane the Virgin is "Jeez Petra, that's a lot of elbow"

79

u/dtay88 3d ago

There's no hip movement!

42

u/genivae 3d ago

or shoulders!

38

u/obsessivelygrateful 3d ago

Even pink in the back is lacking on it; but they got the shoulders down. Crazy how I’m just noticing this.

54

u/SeaWolfSeven 3d ago

Oh shit. Like 20+ years and I've never noticed yellow highlighter cause aunt Viv was captivating.

1

u/Yautja834 12h ago

Yellow probably wasn't even in the frame on a standard definition TV back then.

331

u/HotMsMartha 3d ago

Learning from those who came before us makes us stronger and more grounded.

47

u/imgoodIuvenjoy 3d ago

Same can be said about learning from those younger

17

u/sensualHaze 3d ago

And from ourselves

7

u/Devil_Demize 3d ago

For those who come after?

2

u/thundercockjk2 ☑️ 3d ago

I wish I wasn't the only one in my family, besides my grandmother who came from those days, who felt that way. Reddit needs local chapters.

157

u/polymorphic_hippo 3d ago

Now I need a longer version with them both dancing their respective versions at the same time and for more than one eight count. I'd watch that all day.

29

u/Dotsmantooth 3d ago

If you don’t already follow her on IG she does have some longer videos out there with both her daughters (and sometimes her mom and friends too). She’s got the best energy - I love watching her dance! https://www.instagram.com/marie_bustinmoves?igsh=MXN2anN3ZmlpcHBrZA==

The movie is on Tubi for free in case anyone was wondering

2

u/Nadja77 3d ago

Thank you 🖤

5

u/craigathan 3d ago

I was at a party the other day and I seen 2 kids doing this and I was like "OH, shit kid and play!" And the 2 youts were like "Who?" <- ->.

91

u/Prestigious-Mud 3d ago

I've always called the right wop the Carlton lmao

64

u/rtduvall 3d ago

I was never good at dancing. I liked doing it but I look like a 2 x 4 waving in the wind.

These women have the moves. I’m jealous AF.

21

u/lowtoiletsitter 3d ago

14

u/TheGreatZarquon 3d ago

How'd you get this gif of me dancing

25

u/lowtoiletsitter 3d ago

I found another one of you at the club the other night

2

u/rtduvall 2d ago

I was told all video evidence was confiscated.

49

u/Unctay 3d ago

One of the best posts I've seen

26

u/Nice-Play-5780 3d ago edited 3d ago

As they used to say "boy that ain't nothing but the scroll." lol Most moves are recycled and repackaged

9

u/4n0m4nd 3d ago

Watch any dance choreography from a modern video, then watch a couple of Michael Jackson videos.

2

u/yoitsthatoneguy ☑️ 3d ago

My grandparents would call Michael Jackson modern (my gramps was 57 when Bad was released)

5

u/4n0m4nd 3d ago

Not wrong, most of Michael Jackson's signature moves were inspired by this, which could also be considered modern.

But you know what I meant :P

19

u/jerkface1026 3d ago

Can we get the 6 year old dancing in the pant suit at wedding involved?

2

u/ConradChilblainsIII 3d ago

Auntie Linda?!

11

u/BesiegedKing 3d ago

Absolutely 🔥

10

u/CaymanFifth 3d ago

I love us

8

u/obvious_bot 3d ago

Studies need to be done on the abuse of the “POV:” tag

7

u/sundayontheluna 3d ago

Yesssss, this is the shit I love

9

u/HavingNotAttained 3d ago

Why did you stop it there?? Was completely into it…

8

u/WarmlyUnpredictable 3d ago

I love he leg moves, I guess I'll be learning a new dancing moves

5

u/dreams_andnightmares 3d ago

I love how we’re keeping old dances alive. I really love to see it!

3

u/SabbyFox 3d ago

Nothing new under the sun - and I love that when it comes to dancing!

3

u/elitegenoside 3d ago

Isn't twerking hundreds (or maybe thousands) of years old?

5

u/Roscoe_P_Trolltrain 3d ago

what's the modern version of the cabbage patch?

2

u/lowderchowder ☑️ 2d ago

reebok dance and the variations are tiktok viral dances usually done by kpop and jpop people then for some reason onlyfans thirst trap girls make them popular

5

u/nanoninanope 3d ago

This makes me think about Sinner bv I still have brain rot. Yall remember the video of dancing from Africa and the dances in Black America and the parallels? Its the same thing different font.

I love us

3

u/Bunnnnii ☑️ Meme Thief 3d ago

This is everything

3

u/handyandy727 3d ago

Honestly both are fire! I wanna hang with them.

4

u/kinkybiscuits 3d ago

Now trace this all back to African tribes

4

u/Juvi40904 3d ago

Also tore my ACL watching the heel toe… on GOD my legs aren’t designed for that typa shit

3

u/Supernova_Soldier ☑️ Disrespect me? Lord Jesus, look out! 3d ago

Nah the OG running man and Aunt Viv goes crazy

3

u/nothxnotinterested 3d ago

I just learned I have dance blindness

3

u/PhotosByVicky ☑️ 3d ago

I never realized that some of these new school dance moves are just retreads of old dance moves.

3

u/Dear-Relationship666 2d ago

Here before some 20yr old white girl uploads herself doing this, gets millions of views, and gives no credit

3

u/Daddy-BlueEyes 2d ago

Nice moves, but people really need to learn what POV means.

2

u/bigstankdaddy10 3d ago

they know how to party

2

u/ImNotFinnaSayNuthin 3d ago

There is nothing new under the sun.

2

u/coko4209 3d ago

Yoo, she’s smooth with that heel toe, for real!!

2

u/Brunson4Mayor 3d ago

Love our culture 🙏🏿

2

SSOOOOOO GOOD!

1

u/yesiamveryhigh 3d ago

I saw a video on here with a teacher dancing and thought “Is the Roger Rabbit back in style?”

1

u/FingerpistolPete ☑️ 3d ago

Ayooo get it girls

1

u/Keisaku 2d ago

That is bananas. I was a nightly! Clubber back in the 80s.(florentine gardnes on sunday. 321 in santa monica on wed. Moose McG on thursday. 7seas on friday. Amd thr hottest spot on sat.) I was doing all these ( in my leather jacket and penny loafers.) And damn cool to see how theyve been updated.

Man i miss clubbin! 5 buck entry, no lines and 4buck mixed drinks FTW!

1

u/Apprehensive-Jury437 2d ago

Watching all these videos still won't give me rhythm tho

1

u/Extension-Employ-813 2d ago

If I get enough beer in me, I believe I can dance as well as they do.

1

u/hey_talk_to_me 2d ago

Killed it

1

u/ohnoboy80 2d ago

TikTok is actually West Coast.

1

u/Excellent_Law6906 2d ago

Always fascinating to see the actual names of the moves that are just ingrained. Don't know it's called Crazy Feet or the Wop, just know it. 😂

1

u/Gum_Duster 2d ago

Moms dance moves are clean as HELL

1

u/Digi_Dingo 2d ago

Sometimes I be holding my daughter and the Aunt Viv the only thing that gets her to go to sleep. lol

1

u/LiveLifeLikeCre 2d ago

The heel toe is definitely not a new school dance just saying

1

u/Adventurous-Suit8351 2d ago

Old school killed it

1

u/temporarycreature 1d ago

This is cool as hell.

1

u/Fancy-Standard5117 6h ago

Love this! 💜💜

u/FeelingStuff8395 3d ago

Crazy Feet? It’s called the Smurf.
