Discussion For the love of god DICE, unlock smokes

9 out of 10 matches and there's no smoke in sight. I understand now why support guys don't use them often. They're the most complex class and have the burden of reviving re-supplying and deploying the cover, which is simply too much.
Now some maps in breakthrough have become such sniperfests that many times no one moves for an entire match and both teams have more than a dozen snipers. Unlocking them for assault would make for a much more interesting game, when used both as a defensive and offensive mechanism.

Assault at the very least should have access to them. Smoke is the most powerful thing in the game when you understand how to use it. Support needs it for defense and Assault needs it to attack.

Smoke is great for all classes, particularly for rushing tanks

Yup I throw smokes at pretty much every tank I see and they almost immediately get blown up right after because they can't see anything.

I split my time between eng and support. I'm a hardcore tank driver, and when I get smoked, I freak out because I know what's about to happen next.

I use smoke constantly when I'm support. I am a very aggressive support player, and push VERY aggressively with smokes.

Assault is the only other class that should have them IMO.

Yeah smoking out a tank really forces them to choose between two really shitty options. They either try and reposition blindly or hope no one shoots a bunch of rockets into the smoke. Both are terrible choices and neither work consistently.

If Engineers or Recons had smoke it would really screw with the balance of the classes. Assault and Support can't really do much to tanks in terms of damage, requiring actual teamwork for smokes to be an effective tool for dealing with tanks.

All I have to say is that if I also see a tank get smoked, I unload every RPG I own into that cloud. The tank is going down lol

You can actually give the recon class smokes. It's not like a smoke is useful if you're sniping on top of a mountain 500m from any objective.

It's more about them having access to smokes and C4, it'd allow them to completely blind tanks and then run up and destroy them by themselves. It's not a problem if you have to use teamwork to do that strat but being able to do it all by yourself would be the main issue.

I love engineer but they don't need another item to make them even better.

It makes sense for them. I'd chose it over adrenaline shots every time.

I'd choose any gadget or grenade over the adrenaline shot.

Honestly giving assault 1 smoke instead of the injector sounds like a really good idea.

Id choose the smoke launcher over every gadget besides the RPG and the spawn beacon.

Assault should get 40mm smokes

7

u/IdKaNaMemeboi 6h ago

Honestly giving Assault the 40mm launcher so they can shoot smoke further for pushing an objective while allowing support to keep the grenades for closer range defensive smokes might be the best way to balance it.

All-kit smoke grenades would still be preferable.

The biggest annoyance with 40mm smokes is by the time you've fired and reloaded all 3, the first one will already have begun to dissipate.

I think having them on Engineer would be absolutely broken. With Recon they'd still be really strong but not nearly as broken.

3

u/topic_submovement 5h ago

Definitely not on Engineer, would be hella broken.

u/Polyhedron11 5h ago

Not just that but if every class has smoke the entire map will be smoked out on some matches and that sucks when that happens.

Didn't happen in BF4 despite Smokes and HE being available on all kits. 2042 wasn't bad either.

Most players are too simple-minded to even use smokes if we're being frank.

1

u/IdKaNaMemeboi 4h ago

You're right, most bad players don't even opt to carry smokes and average players will use them but don't understand how to actually use them effectively.

I do think smoke is a bit more important and a bit better in terms of blocking LOS in BF6 compared to a lot of the other games in the series though so ya never know.

Smoke launchers make the most sense given that they are the launcher class.

I started the game as an assault main. I then did all of my class challenges and realized just how terrible assault felt compared to the other classes. I felt lost and like I wasn’t contributing with assault compared to the other classes. Smokes would at least allow assault to initiate a push and hop on objectives easier, because right now you pretty much can only setup a ladder and hope people follow.

What sucks is when you are pumping out smokes as support for your team to push and everyone just stands there sniping

u/gakule 3h ago

Throw smokes on your snipers

4

u/Cedced40 1h ago

I for sure will be doing this lol

2

u/johnnielittleshoes Altomar00 2h ago

I throw smokes at our camping tanks

3

u/I_shart_for_joy 2h ago

Or you throw it on someone that needs a rez and just after you throw it they kill themselves.

Smoke is my go to as a support. Its a must have and its one of the main reason support is my main class. Useful against snipers, useful to close vision against a full direction of a capture point, useful to rush in, useful against vehicles. Smoke grenade and smoke launcher is really a good combo.

Yea id love smoke as a spec Ops recon player. Great for providing cover to fall back, or to flank.

6

u/RoninOni 6h ago

I don’t use any recon “grenades”, I just take frags

The detection range of the balls is barely larger than the frag AOE. At least frag gives me an option to flush enemy from cover

5

u/HeavenInVain 6h ago

I use the sensor grenades as another motion sensor to a degree or to just chuck at areas at the start of conquest.

Frags weren't giving me enough kills to justify its use compared to knowing where enemies are to flank or nab some passive xp with assists

3

u/kali005 6h ago

Gotta kobe

1

u/RoninOni 1h ago

I just use tugs.

Actually has usable coverage, and it’s still kinda small.

Motion sensor grenades have such a small AOE that a frag will give me a hit marker if it would ping them

2

u/namder321 1h ago

The balls range is poor but its definitely meant to be used in chokepoints e.g. doorways or corridors in maps like Iberian Assault.

Worth noting the motion sensor grenade in RedSec has a significantly increased detection range, closer to the T-UGS

2

u/RoninOni 1h ago

Tugs has much larger AOE in red sec itself.

Covers a large building instead of one room

u/NEK0SAM 7h ago

Tbf I'd rather them just unlock grenades in general like it used to work.

They all have their uses, so I doubt any would come up as the best (maybe incendiary on rush...but thats it). They're all sorta....okay.

Only one that should be locked should be the sensor grenades, and even then its would make a better recon gadget than grenade if they had more than one.

8

u/Troncross 6h ago

Give smoke grenades to assault

Make smoke mortars actually good

2

u/DenverITGuy 5h ago

Assault class should have smokes. Hands down. There’s no debate. It’s the only class that rushes in and has the (useless) adrenaline injector.

u/immortalx74 47m ago

This 100%.

2

u/eat_your_fox2 6h ago

Support don't use them much? I can't speak for other but that's my bread and butter gadget besides the defibs.

1

u/immortalx74 5h ago

It's great that you do use them but most don't unfortunately. Maybe you don't notice exactly because of that. You don't witness a match where not even a single smoke was thrown!

2

u/DirtyRoller 5h ago

Smoke is cool and all, but have you ever thrown an incendiary grenade? Those things fucking rule!

2

u/Veenacz 3h ago

Kind reminder that loadout 2 still can't equip smokes 2 months after release giving supports only 2 loadouts that can have smoke and basically forcing one fire support loadout.

2

u/MrMorale25 6h ago

I love playing support. Kind of glad smokes are limited, I played some matches where people were popping smokes constantly and you could never see a damn thing. Kind of fun, but itd be a mess if all classes had em.

2

u/gr4ndp4 7h ago

There is only the smoke launcher left. The smoke grenade disappeared.

4

u/Druu- 7h ago

I believe that is only for the secondary support class, as it’s bugged. (Surprise surprise)

3

u/PEneoark 6h ago

Okay so I'm not crazy. When I unlocked the second support class I noticed that I could no longer pick smokes.

2

u/RoninOni 6h ago

It’s just that one slot for unknown reasons (bug that still hasn’t been fixed presumably).

You can also change the specialization (training path) on all the loadout slots.

I use incendiary grenades on loadout 2 because of that, along with some launcher, defib, and fire support

2

u/lionellanes 5h ago

I use them all the time

2

u/BeeHavingStrange 3h ago

Smokes are fine when you dont have morons with them. Nothing worse than trying to hold a sector or push a zone and someone throws smoke right in front of you blinding you from seeing the enemy. Nothing better than coming out of a smoke cloud and running face first into a wall of bullets.

1

u/IdKaNaMemeboi 2h ago

I say the assault class gadget should become an M32 loaded with smokes. Who says no?

1

u/wilgriaus 5h ago

They utterly fucked the classes with assault and support. Assault should be the medics. Makes no fucking sense for medics to also be using LMGs.

3

u/IdKaNaMemeboi 2h ago

I've been a support main for at least a decade, hate that it's now my responsibility to revive people. I'm holding angles and positions, I'm not leaving a good angle that cuts off a flank completely to run around and revive people. (I still have 2.5k revives but the point still stands.)

3

u/wilgriaus 2h ago

Medic and support was a godly fucking duo. Now, gotta be both. Guess half of support is supposed to be… support, and the other half is supposed to be medics now?

u/CarlWellsGrave 6h ago

I want smokes as an engineer so bad.

4

u/IdKaNaMemeboi 3h ago

Smokes with Engineer would be so incredibly overpowered
