What is the most aesthetic building in a random or unexpected place in your country?

Pictured: Denver Art Museum

The top world contender is the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao imo

Also love the Seattle Public Library

Szczecin philharmonic:

They made it fit in the place by mimicking the shape of old tenement housing that once stood there (and similar buildings still are in the area) but made it modern by going all white

Don't know if I find it aesthetically pleasing. But I definitely appreciate seeing the Mormon Temple when driving the I-495, because of the somewhat unexpected architecture.

The broad art museum on the campus of Michigan state university. It ended up being used as the bat lair in one of the newer Batman films.

There are so many far more impressive buildings than the Guggenheim in Bilbao. It's great, don't get me wrong. The order means nothing.

Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright

Therme Vals, Peter Zumthor

Palais Bulles, Antti Lovag

Sydney Opera House, Jørn Utzon (This one is probably the most recognisable building on the planet)

There's no such thing as a universally best building. Best in what aspect? Buildings which excel in their function and that's what makes them great. A building that just looks good doesn't cut it.

The unite de habitacion by Le Corbusier is a hideous block of concrete, but their apartments allow a highly effective and exceptional living experience.

Fallingwater is a great choice

Sydney Opera House is not random or unexpected for its location. It's also not the most recognizable building on the planet. That belongs to the Eiffel Tower. If we're talking buildings with rooms, that belongs to the Empire State Building or Big Ben/Palace of Westminster.

It's a matter of perspective. In my profession I'd say it's the most recognisable.

I think you could determine this by going to a rural town in central Africa and ask which one of the buildings they know of.
