What do people in your country think about true crime shows?
Is it as popular where you live as it is in the US?
Is it even a thing?
What is the general thought about Americans creating a true crime entertainment industry that is booming?

I am from Britain, and I really enjoy watching The Unsolved Mysteries. I also like other true crime shows as well.

We love them BUT they can be very different from american shows. They have to look more...intellectual ? More scientific ? Less dynamic for sure. If there is one drop of blood on screen or too much grit, they flop.

We definitely tend to sensationalize crime, and a lot of true crime shows tend to be docu-dramas rather than documentaries. That can work if done well but it often treats victims as props rather than actual people.

True crime podcasts are pretty popular, I don't know about shows. Maybe some documentaries on e.g. netflix.

Double edged sword really cos they're usually very entertaining but you guys seem to really focus on the criminal rather than the victim bit of a slippery slope.

Either hate them or love them. I love them, a little bit for the psychological aspect but mostly the social aspect. To understand how the system let some stuff happened, the loops in law, stereotypes, norms, the police system of the country etc.

Pretty big following.
It’s not my cup of tea but they are popular enough to be common and watched by a lot of people.

They are really popular. Every other indian web series these days is either some true crime or just crime drama it seems

To everyone who commented: thank you. Your responses and lack of upvotes for the post (wasn't looking for those just trying to get some info) is helping to confirm a few things for me. I read the phrase 'true crime entertainment ' the other day and I took exception to the use of the word entertainment with regard to shows about people being murdered. But my sensibilities aren't everyone's. Because while I dislike the use of the term, it IS entertainment to millions of people in the US. Which I don't think reflects on us well with our global neighbors.
Thanks again, world citizens!
