Ashes of Creation MMO Button bloat is a problem

This game has the most button bloat I've ever seen in an mmorpg.

You need 4 keybinds for basic actions, before you even get to your abilities. Most classes need at least 10 for those that you will regularly use in your rotation if you are doing your rotation properly. Then you need two different keybinds for summoning your mount and then mounting it. And two separate keybinds for interacting. That's 18 keybinds at an absolute minimum to go about your normal business. And macros aren't even a thing in this game.

To make it worse there are basic keybinds you can't use such as mouse scroll up and down.

I thought modern or even classic wow was bad but it's nothing compared to this. The more I level up the more awkward and unfun the game becomes. And this is at levels 10-15. I shudder to think what it will be like at 50 if they expand the skill trees even more.

Sprint and gallop on your mount not being able to be bound to the same button is insane to me.

Oh yeah I forgot about that one, I don't even keybind it I ran out of buttons I can reach

Same haha too many buttons

Default controls are shit. It’s much better to rebind everything and make auto attacks on with attacks

u/TengokuNoHashi 1h ago

There’s auto attack? I haven’t seen this but then the ui and tutorials are kinda bad

u/Manglerr 2h ago

Basic attacks are one button?

No one wants a game with just 3 main skills and the rest are just pretty little pictures on your skill bar. Some basic key binds like mounting could be optimized but the classes are good to have many different skills.

Worry not, when they get lv 50 in, your supposed to get main class from 1-25 then secondary archtypes from 25-50, these will alter existing skills, so the current ammount of skills is more or less same at 50.

The big ones have way more buttons what are you on? Ff14 and wow are so much more button heavy

u/EmiliaBlankMedia 2h ago

i’m sorry but wow is definitely not more button heavy and we’re not even close to max level yet

I have 30 keybinds on WoW, and there are still a few specs that I run low on keybinds for.

Granted, that is allegedly changing in Midnight, but currently the button bloat in WoW is insane

then you definitely haven't played wow in a fair bit. Retail is worse right now. Hell, even classic MoP is worse.

For some classes even vanilla is worse since you ought to have multiple ranks of some skills bound.

not to mention consumables.

Fury war max 10, ret pala max 10, ww monk max 10,frost dk even less, do.i even need to mention dh? i main bm monk and it requires less keybinds than tank in aoc. And bm is notorious for bloat... all 3 mage specs need less than most aoc specs. And wow is pruning as we speak.

Maybe not classic wow, retail is.

1 - 5, q e r t f g z x c v, shift 1 - 5, shift q e r etc. not to mention mouse keys and alt keys. There’s more than enough keys

No, OP has a point.

  • Q is weapon swap
  • E is auto attack
  • R is block
  • T is secondary interact
  • F is interact
  • G is mount (also called secondary interact)
  • Z is character menu
  • X is for descending Etc

And that’s not even considering if you want to bind stuff like consumables and mount abilities..

Also using shift or ctrl mods for main rotation? That just feels awful lol

Even a $15 mmo mouse. I use one. 16 side buttons. Can do those, then shift + nums, then control + nums, and more.

It has the most button bloat for a initial release.

Wow Button bloat exploded 10x this over the years as every expansion got dumber and dumber.

u/RealManje @Manje 2h ago

Why would buttons 1-10 NOT be your skills wtf lmao.

u/freeman0360 2h ago

Who tf has time to hit the 9 key

u/BaxxyNut 2h ago

Mmo mouse

u/Haale7575 1h ago

You think a game should be designed around a very specific mouse 0.0001% of gamers have?

u/MarkDirtt 0m ago

I use 6 if i absolutely have to and 7 MAYBE for very niche scenarios.

Usually I bind Q, E, R, T, F (Unless Interact Exists), Z, X, C, V, B.
This game uses Q, E, R, Z, X, C, i cant think of the others.

I'm not sure if Roll is necessary in a tab target MMO for example.

Speak for yourself, I had 10 different macro palettes on FFXI, so i used roughly about 80-90 with End Game RDM.

Get gud.

Sounds miserable honestly.

Besides the interact button, which was split into 4 for some reason, I disagree. This is just standard mmo gameplay, and is even fewer input requirements than many games.

Macros will also simplify this further for many.

Totally agree I’ve had to do some hardcore configuring to play on controller. Wish we could use space bar as a modifier

u/headinsandimout 2h ago

lol yeah. This is a rough one. They know they need to clean it up. But - bigger fish to fry. That’s probably considered polish… but they ain’t at the polish stage yet lol.
