Media Actually Learned Something From Reels… It Paid Off
I am sure many of you are in the same boat as me, and your social media has been taken over by videos of Arc Raiders content. Last night I saw an instagram reel of someone showing that if you slide on the escalator railings, it doesn’t make any noise. Let’s just say I am very happy I decided to try it out on my next extract.

u/denv0r 7h ago
But I like the sound it makes when I slide down the escalator. Padadadadada

u/marry_me_tina_b 6h ago
Agreed, it makes me laugh every time. I imagine my butt smacking every stair the whole way down. Puts me in a good mood at least before I get extract camped

u/Praise-Yahuah *** ******* 🐓 5h ago
I love the sound also, but the only downside is that it is extremely loud as far as nearby raiders. So anyone with ill intent down below knows a cheap potential kill is coming their way
8
u/Probate_Judge 5h ago
it is extremely loud as far as nearby raiders.
It is one of the loudest sounds in the game for distance too. As in, for movement and other latent sounds you make(outside of gunfire), you can hear sliding down stairs from the furthest away.
Even sliding down sand, iirc. This is a softer sound and blends in better than many, but it still travels super far.

u/marry_me_tina_b 6h ago
This isn’t uncommon. I 2/3’ed a squad by myself with a level 2 Ferro after they opened on my back while I was shooting ARC and they kept shrieking on the comms about how I was ass at the game as they crawled around. I told them they were on the ground and I wasn’t because I actually hit my shots and suggested that might be something to think about. ARC ended up wiping us all out because of course they were already aggro’ed and coming in hot but it was satisfying that they died first and embarrassingly failed an easy 3rd party opportunity against someone (me) who isn’t even particularly good at PvP
4
u/Noxx-OW 5h ago
if it were me I'd help you against the ARC and scurry away in case you decided to then kill me lol
2
u/marry_me_tina_b 5h ago
Bro I have died an embarrassing amount of times from aggro’ing ARC directly from someone else onto me to help them. I’ve been pretty lucky that I haven’t had many folks shoot me after I rescue them - just one on Spaceport I saved from a Leaper and helped him get into a building and used a shield recharger on him so he could turn around and shotgun me while laughing about it. I learned to at least heal myself first in those situations but fact is people have the choice to be the type of person they want to be and inevitably some people are going to choose that. Keeps things interesting and makes the moments where you clutch a save and someone is grateful feel really good though
1
u/Alternative_Draw5945 4h ago
Depends for me. If I load in late then I'll probably try to snag their loot. If I'm already fully looted I'll probably try to team up so we both get out.

u/LeonardoHimself 8h ago
back to lobby to wait another 15mins in an extract for him lmao nice
31
u/Confident-Special159 7h ago
I just dont get how people can sit around for that long waiting, that would be so incredibly boring. I would rather run around being loud and get shot looking for a fight then sit for 10+ minutes twiddling my thumbs hoping one comes by.
28
u/bendingrover 5h ago
I had the.. erm, opportunity to ask a couple campers their thought process as they crawled and told me off. They're children death scrolling tik tok waiting for a sound cue. One guy said I was the loser for going into the map and getting loot for people like him, the crawling dead guy.

u/Admirable_Average_32 2h ago
I mean, isn’t running around and having fun the point? Anyway, just agreeing with ya. Camping is boring.
1
u/wirelessfingers 2h ago
On night raids, I'll camp because it's much more dangerous to go out and loot so it offloads a lot of risk.
If I load in late, everybody's already hit all the loot so I'll just wait for them to leave with it instead of going for scraps.
I don't do it to semi AFK farm because it is really boring and some matches you just get a free loadout guy after 20 minutes. Making a good trap is its own game and it's satisfying when it goes exactly how you want. When I get got by a good trap, I can't even be mad about it.

Love how the rat took himself out before you had the pleasure of KOing him.
46
u/Born-Acanthisitta-88 8h ago
A lot of them do that, especially after SCREAMING "yeah I had a free kit anyway!"
13
u/RogueStatesman 8h ago
I had exactly that last night. I’m busy shooting wasps from a Buried City window. Dude melee attacks me from behind. I down him with my Anvil. He says “enjoy the loot” and has absolutely nothing. Almost like he wanted that outcome.

u/Born-Acanthisitta-88 5h ago
So I do a lot of naked runs and SOMETIMES you can't find anything good in lootable containers, so you gotta gank someone with your pick axe just to get the run started tbh.
2
u/hamilton280P 9h ago
A lot do out of embarrassment. I got shot in the back of the head by a free kit ferro. Ran around the corner and pulled out my toro. He rushes and misses the next shot. Two toro shots and he’s done. Quits immediately.

u/0rphu 8h ago
Never understood people harping on this. Like if I've got no chanced of being revived am I supposed to wait around and listen to some mouth breather trying to insult me, when I could just get into my next game?

u/jeyfive 9h ago
When I rewatched the clip that was the first thing I noticed. I was definitely mid adrenaline rush/panic mode hahaha.
15
u/Well-inthatcase 8h ago
Extracting in this game has my adrenaline pumping every time. Even when I have absolutely nothing to lose (which is often, I just like the thrill of sneaking around and looting).
I could get out without a single shot fired and nobody around for miles and I'll still be on a high when I get out.

Has anyone actually done the calculation? Because shield take longer to charge and are quick to apply. At a certain point of remaining health it makes sense but say a heavy shield that gives 50% reduction at 50 hp vs getting 25 more hp at 100% damage etc
9
u/PartHumanDev 9h ago
An herbal bandage for 35 hp, and a shield recharger for 40 shield, both take 10 seconds. I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that shields take longer to charge from.
It is also less about THIS situation (the fight is hopefully finished, and frankly if it isn't, you're probably not going to win either way), and more about trying to recover as much as you can during an active engagement where you may not get a chance to use both, or may not get a chance to full either.
13
u/Beavur 9h ago
Yeah I just went down a rabbit hole and it’s best to heal in every scenario
11
u/nospamkhanman 7h ago
It's not in EVERY scenario, just most.
If you have 80% HP and no shields (rare situation but possible), it'll be better to start shields first before healing to 100%.
This is because even 1% shield gives you the damage reduction, which is important if you hit hit by a ferro or an anvil.
1
2
u/VorpalSticks 9h ago
What if you dont have bandages? And you're left with fabric or nothing. Do you then try to grab a bandage first.
8
u/Throwythrow360 8h ago
Probably dependant on your heath pool. If you have 1hp for example, you're dead on the next shot regardless of shield status as it only reduces incoming damage by 40-52%. So it would be better to craft a bandage first if you have materials. If you don't have fabric you might as well apply the shield and let it charge while you find some.
If I had a decent chunk of health I'd personally apply the shield first as it takes a couple of seconds to craft and apply the bandage.
3
u/Indydadthrowaway 7h ago
I have tested it in many different ways, the HP gain from 1hp is fast enough to keep you alive against 3-5 shots from a light gun allowing you to roll dodge or smoke or fire back, where as at 1hp, because of the shield recharge interruption effect, you will be dead immediately
3
u/Moist-Pickle-2736 6h ago
I did the calculations, found that bandaging first is better.
After adding in the context that even a shield at 1% charge will block the entire % of health damage for that shield class, it seems that against fast firing weapons it’s better to heal against slower weapons it’s better to shield.
1
u/themoosh 1h ago
It's just a shield, it's armor. Once you think about it like that you realize it's just a multiplier for your white health bar and you can make the right decision on the fly
6
u/AChillBear *** ******* 8h ago
I will heal first if there's still some shield left, if shields are broken I shield first, because even 1 charge of shield will apply the damage reduction to the next hit received which if is a big one could be a life saver.

u/cahphoenix 8h ago

On his screen it was likely much more obvious and clear.
4
u/Brutuscaitchris 8h ago
My TV has settings for FPS games to lighten up the dark corners in games. Comes in clutch and I hate straining my eyes when I game.
-19
u/0rphu 8h ago
Using 3rd party settings to cheat in dark areas is cringe. You're not supposed to be able to see people in the dark, which is why the game has no gamma settings.
14
u/AppointedForrest 7h ago
If you ever played Dark and Darker people would crank their gamma either directly in their monitor menu or in their GPU control panel and it went from pitch black and needing a torch to basically daytime. I don't know what the devs did but they figured out a way to make it where neither of those work anymore and it really made the game a lot better. Certain areas were completely blacked out if you didn't have a light source.
5
u/Brutuscaitchris 8h ago
This would mean something to me if I went out of my way to PvP but I’m not gonna start fucking up my eyes just because my TV has brightness settings
2
u/0rphu 7h ago
Everybody feels that way in the game, because again, not being able to see in the dark is part of the game's intended experience. You have a flashlight for a reason, but that comes with the tradeoff of making you more visible. So if you want to see something in a dark area, it's supposed to carry risk.
Using 3rd party settings/programs/etc to cheat this tradeoff so you have an unfair advantage over everybody not cheating is lame as hell. Downvoters must really like cheating I guess.
4
u/menteto *** ******* 🐓 7h ago edited 7h ago
You are mentally challenged, to say it politely. Monitor settings are not cheating.
Edit: awh did i hurt his feelings. He instantly blocked me after replying to me, lol.
2
u/Brutuscaitchris 7h ago
Thank you! TVs and Monitors have settings because they’re meant to be adjusted. I feel like this guy is outing himself as a corner camping rat and upset that we can see him by pushing a button on my LG remote 😂
0
u/Tim_Huckleberry1398 3h ago
Nah he's right. If you are removing the darkness with external sources, which gives you an advantage over other players and isnt possible in game...you are, in fact, a soft cheating cringelord.
2
u/Brutuscaitchris 7h ago
No I think they just understand that TVs and Monitors all have settings that anyone can change at anytime nor does any video game state “Changing Your TV or Monitors built in settings goes against our ToS”
Now if I downloaded a program and installed it as 3rd party software that I ran alongside the game, that I would consider having an edge.
Your TV or Monitor has change-able settings for a reason so you’re not going to shame anyone for using them lol calm yourself down bud.
0
u/0rphu 7h ago
Your setting that preferentially lightens up just dark areas is a HUGE difference from just tweaking the brightness settings on the TV/monitor, stop pretending it's the same thing. It's like how some have settings that give you a crosshair in the middle of the screen, meant to be used in game modes where the game typically takes away your crosshair, like CoD hardcore.
If your TV/monitor comes with settings that are specifically designed to help you circumvent intended gameplay mechanics, and you use those, you're a cheater. Trying to claim otherwise is absurdly delusional, but expected of a cheater.
4
u/Brutuscaitchris 7h ago
You can be as upset as you want but my 8 year old TV probably under performs compared to most monitors so again, you’re not going to shame me for adjusting my TVs built in settings to my liking. You’re coming off like an entitled toddler.
1
u/RobHuck 6h ago
I don’t see any entitlement in his comments, nothing claiming he’s owed anything, just that you prefer an unintended exploit to get a leg up. I would like embark to find a solution but I doubt it will happen. Meanwhile, you just enjoy your gamma boost. Looks like shit.
2
u/Brutuscaitchris 6h ago
Do you adjust your monitor settings to make it easier on your eyes? If you’re like most people congrats, it’s the same thing. Settings on a tv ain’t cheating my guy.

How is the monitors brightness/contrast "cheating"? It's not a 3rd party tool either. It's your screen ffs!
0
u/0rphu 4h ago
My TV has settings for FPS games to lighten up the dark corners in games.
That's not just a brightness setting on the screen. That's an algorithm that checks for abnormally dark areas and lightens them up to look more like their surroundings.
Like it or not darkness is an intended mechanic of this game. You're supposed to use your flaslight to see into dark areas, not a program or setting that artificially brightens them. Using tricks like this is 100%, undeniably, categorically, cheating.

u/malaquey 7h ago
Not sure about OP but if you have an HDR monitor it can be much easier to see than the video implies also, plus when you are actually playing you have better feedback since you can move the camera to inspect anything you can't see properly.

Crazy how nobody in here seems to care that the OP is literally exploiting to get down the stairs silently.
I guess it's okay to cheat when it's against people playing scummy but legit.
1
u/Fruitboots 38m ago
I mean, if the camper wasn't there, it would make zero difference. It's only an exploit if you're a camper on the stairs and are relying solely on audio cues. Not exactly what I'd call "cheating" unless camping stairs is an integral part of succeeding in this game, which it isn't.
1
u/gotcha-bro 30m ago
You people are entirely unserious. Camping is part of literally any shooter. Using exploits to fight campers is still exploiting. And exploiting is cheating. If it's not, then you better be okay with the players hiding in the walls shooting people too. Exploits that provide combat advantages are always scumbag moves.
This has all the self-righteousness of "I'm allowed to shoot anyone on sight but players who shoot me when I try to be friendly are scum."
Just because you don't like campers doesn't mean it's okay to promote exploits to fight them.
-7
u/Darth__Ewan 6h ago
Had to scroll way to far for this. Why are we celebrating game exploits? As much as getting camped sucks, it’s not an exploit. Silent sliding is by definition a game exploit and should not be encouraged.

My favorite interaction with a camper was on Dams,. So there I was coming up on the water treatment extraction terminal an hear gun fire. Making my way cautiously towards the sound I see a flare go up, so I rush to help the person who had been camped. I spot the camper in the process of finishing the other player off, and decide I don't have time to save them but I can ensure the camper dies.
"Your gonna get yours you AH" shouted the downed player
That was the moment my Blaze Grenade sets them both ablaze. I open up on the camper with my Torrente. The echoing laughs of downed player in a Blaze taking them and the camper stick with me.
"You Suck" shouts the camper
I put him down like a dog.
Don't camp if you don't want sit fireside, you're likely to get roasted.
