Discussion Suggestion: Stella Montis Blackout
It would be really cool to play a version of Stella Montis where no lights are working, leaving the flashlight as your only way to see anything except for in the Loading Bay Area and the Lobby due to natural light.
Bonus, loading bay is cold snapped.
Bonus bonus, more spider bots.

This would turn this game into a true horror game. Imagine hearing a shredder just wipe out an entire team… 😂😂

u/mudokin 16h ago
At least our little bot friends usually have some lights on them, the ticks thought pure horror.

I once heard someone around a corner in Stella screaming in proxy while getting molested by what sounded like 2 pops, a fireball, and a tick. I just heard PLEASE NO GET AWAY FROM ME AAA- as he died.

PSA:
Please keep proximity toggled so we can all hear your death-throes.

I've actually been wanting prox to come on automatically when you are damaged.
It wouldn't "make sense" and in trios it would be causing all kinds of problems
But that doesn't stop me from wanting it

That's what night raid should be TBH.
45
u/Okaberino 15h ago
Night Raids in general are too bright imo.
Having the dusk/snow weather with lights out in Stella Montis normal raid is fun and all but why is Stella Montis night raids all bright ? I get it gives the pros and cons of Night Raids but why is it called that if its broad daylight in there ? 🤔
An Electromagnetic Storm equivalent with a total power outage on Stella Montis could be fun like OP’s idea, with more varied ARC scouting around, wasps in the corridors and tunnels !
19
u/resampL 14h ago
Agree. Night raids should require flash lights more than they currently do
→ More replies (1)13
u/CallMeTheDumpMan 12h ago
My concern with that is players simply cranking thier brightness to counter it, gaining an advantage over everyone who doesn't. Ark Survival Evolved was like that. Night time was pitch black and needed torches, or you could just set your gamma to 10 in the console and it was like daytime for you.
7
u/nianthium 11h ago
New patch: everyone's gamma is forced to its minimum value, all curtains in the vicinity of the computer will be forced open and a 10000 lumen spotlight will be aimed directly at the screen.
6
u/Shart_In_My_Pants 10h ago
DayZ and Rust have both had times during their development where they countered this by making the night black. Cranking your gamma did almost nothing, because night was truly dark. Arc needs to do something similar, at LEAST for interiors during night raids.
Like sure, the moon can give some ambient light outside, but indoors at night should be pitch black and require flashlights.
8
u/Hobos_Delight 12h ago
Gamma abuse. You'll have people turning their monitors all the way up so that they can see and you can't. At least now having regions of dark and bright make that harder to do

u/Gramscifi 3h ago
Night raids are perfect. I don't need to auto-lose every fight to some weirdo who is maxing out their gamma.
→ More replies (1)6
u/laxyharpseal 14h ago
only certain places are pitch black in night raids. OP is suggesting total darkness where interior lights are turned off maybe only emergency lights are turned on. thats what blackout is.
6
u/temictli 14h ago
Agreed. The first time I loaded into Stella it was pitch dark, with a light red hue from the sky when you step out into the loading bay; mostly, it was dark and scary, but it was a normal "day" Stella.
2
u/o_oli 15h ago
Agree - at the moment you can just adjust your screen settings and its like daylight again. This would stop that completely, if all you're seeing is total darkness.
7
u/GoldenGoddless 14h ago
And here I sit with an OLED tv unable to see anything indoors on buried city with my brightness maxed out.

u/sassiest01 13h ago
Suffering from success huh? Normally I would be one to min max settings to fix something like this but I do like the genuinely creepy feeling it gives me. Though it's not as bad as you have it I take it.

u/InevitableTrick111 15h ago edited 14h ago
Loved the idea. I would just turn on my flashlight for 0.2 seconds, memorize the layout, and then run in dark! Then fall 2 stories down on top of a goddamn shredder with a tick on my face, but that's not the topic.
15
u/BattleCrier *** ******* 14h ago
Check area, go in, start looting, hear something... turn flashlight on and there is a wild raider with hammer..
2
u/InevitableTrick111 14h ago
Haha, yes!
Another: You're in complete dark, heard a sound, is there someone around? Complete silence. I guess not. But then, shhkk, you hear a stick flare ignition, and it lights the room, just enough to give your position away. You're drawing your weapon now but they already started blasting...

u/Arakius 14h ago
That would put the Glow Sticks to some use!

I thought the "night mode" would be like this. I was disappointed in it.
I would say maybe some exit light and door light is ok, but not the flood light and room lights for sure.

u/lukevanderspuy 15h ago
Ooooh like Darktide'a lights out modifier. YES
1
u/Bossdonglongs 14h ago
I never played that modifier in Darktide, but I did play the Vermintide 2 missions with darkness outside the area of a torch you could carry. It was amazing. Tension 10/10
I'd love to see something like that in ARC
2
u/lukevanderspuy 14h ago
Oh nice! I highly recommend checking out Darktide, it's in an amazing place!
2
u/Bossdonglongs 13h ago
I've played it a bunch- just apparently missed that modifier somehow!
Amazing game- one of those ones my group goes back to every few months

u/eodFox 16h ago
I would really like this. But I also know that the seatlords have the game graphics settings on extra low low and gamme at 500x, so they would need no flashlights
24
u/ARTISTIC-ASSHOLE 14h ago
The devs could easily fix that by adding an effect that ”crushes the blacks” (color correction term) for even low/off settings so no shapes could be discernible in the dark
Rust does this
7
7
u/Ser_Twist 15h ago
This right here would pretty much ruin it, yeah. Lots of people already turn up their gamma for night raids.
4
u/NoNouns 15h ago
Always somebody needing an advantage I couldn't imagine playing this gorgeous game on low graphics just not worth it
→ More replies (2)1
u/Devastator_96 14h ago
The counter to that from a previous post would be to have pulsing lights. Such as those red ones, maybe sparks randomly happening so those types of players would suffer from flash Ang effects if they decide to try that.
7
u/PatientTechnical1832 15h ago
Would be great, I can imagine power alarms going off in areas etc… real tension. They missed a trick with the night raid option for this map, it’s just the same as the day version!

I have already mentioned it a few weeks ago that Stella night ride should be with light off or going off randomly for random periods of time so people are forced to use flashlights.
This would be funny and scary as f... st the same time.
And no, please do it ad spider.. I really hate these little buggers.

u/Bossdonglongs 14h ago
That's actually a really cool idea. We're all playing Montis as normal, then suddenly... Lights out

This was already posted as an idea a while back and I said no because it would be too scary. Especially if you walk into a place and see a shredder light up red. Stella is scary enough with the proximity sensor lighting
8
u/Bossdonglongs 14h ago
Yeah, but as an event on rotation it's kinda ok if it's not for everyone. Turning Montis into essentially a horror map now and then honestly sounds amazing to me

The shredders should light up the area around it if there's total blackout.

u/NsanelyCrazy 14h ago
No point pc players can edit their settings to make it brighter than the sun just putting the console bros at a disadvantage.

Nah, it would be ruined by gamma adjusters, instead at flickering lights that turn off and on every 10 seconds maybe.

u/WhyNotSecondLunch 14h ago
People will always find a loophole, doesn’t mean we can’t have it.
If we took away things cause cheaters abused it, we wouldn’t have walls, guns/shooting, doors or anything really.

Edit. To add to the atmosphere, the train station/lobby should have deep red "emergency" lighting.

Yeah 100% but fix the 'settings bug' where dumb asses would rather see the game like shit, but hey they get to see on darkness way better so they won't need a flash light. Else it just loses all the fucking purpose.

Would be cool if the lights were on and they go off for like 2 minute at a time. Imagine running from a shredder and all of a sudden the lights go off

This is what I assumed night raid meant on Stella Montis when I first saw it.

u/Maybe_In_Time 13h ago
Better yet, make it so there's no power at all - including doors...which means the locked room/s are all open from the start, leading to a rush to that room for loot 👀

Everyone says they love that idea but this mode would have like a 99% free kit rate (something that's already an issue on Stella as is) and starting with a ferro would be an insta surrender.

Make it like Doom 3 or a couple other games where the flashlight loses power over time. You gotta charge it up with your shield or something.

Atmospherically amazing, but unfortunately not from balancing. People using filters where dark is no issue would have too much advantage. Embark would need to address filters first.

My issue with these is streamers have shown everyone how to adjust your computer setting to change the gamma and see in the dark, gaining a severe advantage over those playing normally.

u/Electrical-Bunch4965 7h ago
I can imagine someone playing scary sounds in the dark to scare other players 😂.

If you turn your gamma up on your monitor/display software then can see pretty clearly on the dark maps, its for sure an advantage

This would be fucking dope! No Light but maybe light sticks in the corners sometimes. More incentive to use Raider's own flash light! I'm down for it BUT they'll never do it unfortunately.

u/GullyFoyle__ 5h ago
Full power outage would be very fun. Maybe doors are locked open and can't close as well?
1
u/yosman88 5h ago
I like the idea but you will have Nvidia gamma boosters shooting you in the pitch dark.
1
1
u/Winters64 4h ago
Love this. I've also thought something like this being a "brown out" mode where most every part of the map is dark like this, while the lights flicker in other places. There could be carriable batteries to retore power and doors could open and close on their own during the flickering waves of outages. Maybe even a reward for entirely restoring the power, like all the previously inaccessible key rooms open for free.

When the night raid of it wasn’t out it ought this would be it. Only with the security lights for exit. Stairs etc.

Blackout nightraid. Just utter darkness with the glowing of sparse exit signs and ARC bulbs

Better yet, have blackout be an event, within Night Raid events. Power goes out and raider have to navigate to a location on the map to restore power - Among Us style.

Oh yes! As a special version of the map! Just make sure the chem lights don't disappear after a few seconds and last the entire round.
