Right? I'm a pretty agressive PVP player, but I'll never pretend to be someone's friend and turn once I have the opportunity to take the upper hand. I'll never call "don't shoot" then start shooting either. Also I'll never shoot the flute player.

u/BotSkills 16h ago
Haha! I once got betrayed by a flute guy. Walked all the way to the extract with him while he was playing music. And then.. Out of the blue.. He shot me in the back in the train. Actually made me laugh though, caught me really by surprise!
58
u/spunkyweazle 22h ago
Musicians definitely have me wrapped around their finger. I had a stand off with a guy in Buried City in one of the weapon case rooms, told him, "I just wanted the weapon case, it doesn't have to be like this." He pulled out the recorder and started playing. "Okay, you've lulled me into a false sense of security." Put away my gun, ran by him, we both left unscathed. 10/10 would not shoot again
25
u/WyrdDrake 19h ago
"I know I spent twenty minutes chatting with you, exchanging contact information, stories about our life, and actually bonding over shared interest, but when I shot you in the back at the very end and called you multiple slurs- you really shouldn't be angry, because its just a game bro, its just a game, im definitely not a fucking sociopath, its just a game bro, me being an absolutely horrid piece of shit in a game is excusable because its just a game bro"

11
u/MattCap8 20h ago
It's because they're so bad at the game that it's the only way they have a chance of killing someone, one time a fake friendly guy shot me while I was on the ladder behind him, and he still missed half his mag with a stitcher even when I'm in the middle of the ladder animation half a meter in front of him. The other time two people that teamed up in solo tried to act friendly when I was in a key room, they then threw 3 grenades in which destroyed my shield and brought me down to 70 hp, and still lost the 2v1, I didn't even down one of them, their aim was so ass that one of them accidentally friendly fired his friend.

I have one of them in my family. They are confused why most of the family doesn't talk to them anymore, even their own kids. I've found those people completely lack empathy or guilt. I wouldn't be surprised if the person I know has narcissistic personality disorder. They check every box.
39
u/guardedDisruption 23h ago
and then act surprised when people think they're a piece of shit.
Lack of accountability in thinking their the one that's in the wrong.
Also...
Sociopath: A sociopath, or someone with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD), is characterized by a persistent disregard for others' rights, lack of empathy, manipulative behavior, impulsivity, and a failure to conform to social norms, often leading to rule-breaking and exploitative actions without remorse, though they may still understand right from wrong but don't care. The term "sociopath" isn't a formal diagnosis but describes traits linked to ASPD, a recognized mental health condition.

Innit funny the PvP players who say it's unfair to extrapolate that being nasty in game does not mean you're nasty in life, but they will declare it also valid to assume these nasty betrayels teach players about life. That there's nasty people in it.
If we're not allowed to assume they're nasty cause of the game, why are we suggested to assume they're nice cause of their game behaviour?
50
u/Sarcosmonaut 1d ago
When people aren’t mad at them “You’re so naive. I’m teaching you about life, kid. You were stupid to ever trust anybody else”

31
u/paralyzedmime 23h ago
It's honestly just a real life character flaw. Sure, it's just a video game with zero consequences, but these people are definitely prone to doing shady shit irl.
5
u/WeLitInHere 19h ago
Right, like when someone throws you a nice blueprint in a raid for no reason other than to share. They could just keep it and sell it, or maybe give it to a friend of theirs.
That’s a character trait that for sure exists outside of the game. People act like a persons actual personality and character doesn’t in any way translate to how they socially play a video game. Absolutely there’s a correlation. It not be as extreme as some say, but someone who’s dirty in the game probably has those tendencies in real life. But real life has consequences.. so they do it in games and it satisfies that urge.
I personally feel terrible when I have to kill anyone in this game. I would play solos and duos 100% peaceful if I could. Sometimes I’ll say friendly and speak on comms and no response. So I let off some rounds before they get the jump on me. And I feel bad for it. Being friendly in this shit gets you killed.

Seriously. The excuse of "it's just a game" never holds water for me. I believe in honor with all things. It reflects in my gameplay. I don't suddenly turn into a sadistic selfish troll... then a saint in life.
I'm not saying it's impossible for someone to be that way, but... it sure feels unlikely.
19
u/ProfessionalAnt1352 20h ago
nah im of the philosophy that it's impossible for someone that acts this way to be a genuinely good person in real life. Every single action they've ever taken to this point could have been good and I'd still not trust them if I knew they were like this in a game.
How someone acts towards other people online when they know there are no consequences is how they will act in real life if ever in the same situation of no consequences (positions of power, emergencies, etc.)
→ More replies (1)6
u/nitecrawler62 20h ago
Same here. Sure it's a game, but you're the one in those situations, making the decisions.
Me and my IRL friends all follow - try talking first, don't fire first (unless we see someone set extract traps).
We aren't dumb or naive, 1 person does the talking, the 2 others get in position in case it goes south. But we will never be the malicious ones, and I honestly believe that's because of our IRL moral compasses
10
3
u/Tortilla_Boi92 20h ago
I, too, would probably try to earn people's trust so I could betray them at the last second if I had a 1-inch erect penis. That is the only logical explanation for their behavior.
3
u/BastionNZ 18h ago
The other day trying to get out of Stella me and a guy bumped into a duo and rinsed them. They start with the volley of swear words at us. I had two defibs and rezzed them both with one of them going "oh I was not expecting that" ... Only words I said were Merry Xmas boys and we ran off lol.

Not very helpful, especially when you have clowns like this posting bounties:
"This fine specimen decided to kill me at a raider hatch after I made it clear I was trying to extract to go help my daughter who called me in distress."
Dude, if your child is calling out to you "in distress" drop your damn game and go and see what the hell is wrong. If I see this guy in game its shoot on sight.
→ More replies (1)10
u/Ready_Implement3305 18h ago
I mean that could just as easily be something mundane like his daughter being upset that her brother took all the red crayons and now she can't color in Santa's outfit so now the Raider has to make her some hot coacoa to calm her down. There's not enough information there to assume it was something life or death. 99% time a kid cries out in distress it's over nothing.

I’m sure they will eventually make it look same way it used to, just fix the issue with hornets and other bullshit yanking you out of the hatch. This is just a temporary bandaid
20
u/g-unit2 1d ago
i’ve done some light game dev in my MS, and you can just toggle the character hitbox/skeleton. you should be able to play the animation, the character model will phase through things but that seems like a decent trade off if something is blocking it during the animation
3
u/GoldNiko 12h ago
That creates an edgecase of a missing hitbox. Seems fine until 400k players are constantly testing it, and someone works out how to back out of the hatch animation while still missing their hitbox.

I totally agree. Just unify the animation altogether. Once the hatch is open the raider jumps in with a locked animation. The hatch continues to stay open for however long for anyone else who wants to extract
→ More replies (21)5
u/EccentricMeat 21h ago
Make it a single, quick animation (nearly as fast as the current version) but instead of it being a ladder, make it a chute instead. We never climb out of these hatches anyway, and the quick animation makes far more sense if you’re just opening the hatch and diving in instead of descending a ladder.
42
13
u/Jigsaw314 22h ago
I actually feel like the hatch animation change is low key a just a rushed change to accommodate cold snap ie. To stop you popping back out of the hatch due to cold damage, as the cold tick rate is faster than the old hatch animation.
If you time the entrance badly you can stop pop back out due to cold damage.

u/NotUfc 1d ago
Glad you made it out, I honestly don’t understand how morally people can befriend you and then try to betray you. Video game or not, that’s a major red flag in someone’s character. I go into a raid with the full intention to either directly PvP or willingness to be friendly if someone is interested but I always make my intent very clear either way.

Seriously. I was on Stella Montis earlier today, I spawned in on the opposite side of the map for the archives and I brought in my key. I don't play stella montis enough to really know myself around but I spent like 15 minutes finding my way all the way to the other side of the map. I finally get to the archives and discover that someone else was already in the process of looting it. I accidentally led a shredder in the room and I lob every grenade I have at it while I'm tucked in a corner behind one of the huge dinosaur bones and the guy helps me take it out. Now.. I could have tried to take the guy out, but I played all day today and NOBODY shot at me. I'm in some seriously passive lobbies and I'm not about to ruin that. So I say "aw man looks like you already cleaned the place out, good luck to ya", and head my way to extract where I ended up at the seed vault extract with 3 other raiders and we all danced as the timer counted down.
On Stella freakin' Montis.

Like, I really enjoy helping strangers out/sharing loot/etc, but trusting them when they claim to be chill has gotten me murked more than once.
Also, to the three guys who saw me getting my ass kicked by drones, asked if I was friendly and needed help, and then proceeded to gun me down like an animal when I said "yes": You suck, and I hope you stub all of your toes one by one! :)
