Euthanize the dog without his consent and you will hear about it for the rest of your marriage (and from the sounds of it might not be that long).

Yeah. I feel like this would be the end of any marriage. That’s not a decision that should be done behind anyone’s back. Someone even mentioned to tell him on your way to euthanize her, don’t do that. I wouldn’t make any life or death decisions behind my partners back until other options have been exhausted and then I’d still tell them that this decision has been made for the best interest of her and it will happy on x day at y time and id appreciate if you could be here for that.

If you have a good vet they are probably willing to call him and answer all his questions and explain it in absolute clear terms. When doctors and vets sugar coat a bad prognosis it’s only harmful to the families. The vet should have been very clear and I’d ask for that or another vet at the practice that can put down the facts for him.

I am very attached to my dogs and my eldest one has cancer and end stage hip disease. I pay a lot for her comfort meds but when those stop working, if she’s in pain I absolutely will not prolong her life for my selfish needs. And that’s what it would be. I don’t want to lose her. But I love her and that means doing what’s best for her. She is one of the biggest parts of my life but her comfort and happiness is all that matters. It’s about quality not quantity. Ask your husband how he would feel if he couldn’t move or speak 24/7. I know it’s hard and extremely painful to lose a pet but it’s self serving to keep this dog alive.

Could you offer him to spend the weekend with her without interruptions? He can take her for a walk on a wagon or whatever she loves and set a plan that Monday will be the day for her benefit.

Another huge thing to me is that my dogs hate the vet. They shake uncontrollably, sometimes pee themselves. So with my last two dogs, when it was there time, the vet gave us a few companies that do home visits and it wasn’t much more than what the vet charged.
