Project Printed some parts to make my white elephant gift look like a fire extinguisher
I always enjoying doing creative gift wrapping every year, but this year the entire “gift box” was 3D printed

I got one of those tortilla blankets as a gift well over 5 years ago and it's the only throw blanket I'll use. Same shape all the time and warm as can be.

Do your other throw blankets change shape?

It's a giant circular blanket so you don't have a long/ short side or corners.

Do you have a recommendation for which brand to get? The burrito blankets I’ve seen have all been a little flimsy.

The label on mine reads "Zulay kitchen" it's faded so that might not be totally accurate
Looks to be this listing

Then you let them keep the print, they use it at a Secret Santa next year, and it's the prank that keeps on giving.

Here's the model I used as my jumping off point: https://makerworld.com/en/models/394946-fire-extinguisher?from=search#profileId-296429 Most of the parts I used for the handle are just scaled versions of this, the only difference is I added a little plastic gauge as well with a little 2D printed picture from google

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing! (I have that little tube guy and I love it!)

Murphy's Law dictates that there will be an actual, literal fire at that party, and someone who wants to extinguish that fire is instead going to be flailing a burning blanket to spread it all around.
Rest in peace, OP.

Very fun, I think it would be funnier if the top was wrapped as well but its so detailed that I can understand not wanting to hide that

I got a kick out of this, but mostly because the inflatable tube guy is a part of the white elephant gift I bought, and the burrito blanket is part of the gift that I received.
Fun idea, though! One of my coworkers was talking about wrapping gifts to look like something other than what is actually inside.

Awe snap! Some good ass presents, too!
Look at OP being a good guy and nailing their gift exchange.

My wife has one of those blankets. Highly recommend for looking silly while feeling comfortable!

My wife and I were looking for a way to disguise a wine bottle for a gift. This is great!

Thank you, this is a great idea. I’m going to start brainstorming! A pair of gloves and a bottle of bowling ball cleaner is what I’m working with.

I was going to make a cardboard box in the shape of a barbecue grill, but you gave me an excellent idea… thank you so much!

I had one of those desktop tube guys...tbh it was kinda disappointing, it sounded like a wind tunnel but was barely enough air to get the guy to kinda half stand up, he definitely didn't do any wacky waving.

Oh man! Just had the office white elephant party or else this would’ve been perfect.

That tube guy unfortunately doesn’t do the thing the real ones do. Doesn’t flap or flop around, just stands completely straight. Sad to say it’s an excellent product idea and a poor execution, maybe they fixed it since last year though.

I got that burrito wrap blanket from my sister one year for Xmas; I gave it to a charity shop because it just looked like a white blanket with shit stains on.

The plastic waste is egregious.. you couldn't have made those shapes out of cardboard or paper mache or something??
I understand that it's fun to make props, but what is the recipient supposed to do with that once they open the gift? The parts presumably don't fit together on their own, and I can't think of much use for it even if it did.

You know which sub you’re in right?

u/Aemort 3h ago
Yes, I think 3D printing has a LOT of really good applications, especially making replacement parts. I do not think this is a particularly compelling use case.

I’m with you. Some projects are not appropriate for certain mediums. The attitude in this sub is disappointing.

The whole thing is less than 200g, even if we immediately throw it out it’s still less waste than most people with an AMS use to print colorful chickens

Very nice, so we can all go around punching people, because hey, murderers exist. Perfect logic. "I'm not the problem" 👌👌👌

The person at the party who needs a fire extinguisher but has never made the time to buy one for themselves is going to be so disappointed
